China House Outing
It has gotta be China House in Sutton Harbour. Today I’m gonna write about this famous pub in Plymouth. Before stepping in to this place for the first time eons ago, I used to think that it was another typical British-rip-your-ass-Chinese-meal restaurant. Fortunately, it was just a name, as it was actually one of the most famous traditional pubs that you can find overlooking the Sutton harbour which was a marvelous spot for hangout.
It was my first outing with the gang since a month ago. Soomi, Joerg, Antonio & Dave was there. We chose to sit outside as the weather was excellent. For ya’ll who don’t know, this pub used to be a warehouse importing Oriental goods mainly from China during the old days. That is the reason why, the name – China House was used as a way to commemorate the legacy that this place used to accumulate.
The pub is a family oriented place with access for disabled, a function room upstairs, well equipped modern loo, a bar with wide variety of local & international beers & a simple yet ‘strictly’ traditional meal with desserts. The best of all was the location overlooking scenic Sutton Harbour because the pub was located at the bank of the bay known as Shepard’s Wharf in the harbour. Nearby landmarks which was clearly visable from here were the National Marine Aquarium & the historic Barbican.

The service was excellent, there were vast range of sauces provided by request & you can find rare European beers here such as Dutch, Spanish & German beers. China House has always been one of my favorite places especially when I am craving for a nice decent steak! No wonder they rank well at the 3rd place in the list of best pubs in Plymouth.
